Belemnites: Cephalopod Fossils of the Jurassic Period

Belemnites are extinct cephalopods that lived during the Jurassic Period, approximately 200 to 145 million years ago. These mollusks had a long, cone-shaped shell made of calcite, called a guard, which served as a buoyancy aid and a protective structure.
